Research Technician - Arthritis & Clinical Immunology-Gorman

Department: Arthritis & Clinical Immunology - Gorman

The Gorman Lab is looking to hire a Research Technician, this person would perform research experiments and procedures according to standardized protocols and reports results. Receive instructions for each assignment and has the ability to implement the directions. Collect and present data to Principal Investigator. Support team to achieve goals and would be expected to perform the following duties after appropriate training and time in the position.

Responsibilities will include:
-Basic cell culture procedures
-Maintaining mouse colonies
-Euthanizing animals and preparing tissue
-Preparing and maintaining common lab reagents
-Participation in lab and departmental meetings

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences, chemistry, or physics.

Basic knowledge of routine technical/functional laboratory procedures. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office software. Must be detail oriented, organized, and able to work independently, as well as part of a team. Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Work Hours
Typically Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 5pm, but must be willing to work occasional overtime, weekends, and/or holidays.

Physical Demands
Regularly required to stand, use manual dexterity, talk or hear; Frequently required to walk and reach with hands and arms; occasionally sit; frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; vision abilities include close vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Potential exposure to fumes, airborne particles, or rodent dander. May work with toxic, caustic chemicals, radioactive materials, liquid nitrogen, human tissue or blood. Potential risk of electrical shock. Occasional exposure to cold 4C, and/or extreme cold -80C from freezers. Noise level is usually moderate.
