Environmental Engineer 3 (In Training)

 

Our Water Quality Program is looking to hire an Environmental Engineer 3 at our Central Regional Office in Union Gap, WA

This position performs professional environmental engineering duties for the engineering and regulatory oversight of industrial and municipal wastewater treatment facilities in order to protect water quality. 

We are looking for a candidates who can independently assess a wide variety of community waste water and water quality facility needs.

Duties

The mission of the Water Quality Program is to protect and restore Washington's waters to sustain healthy watersheds and communities. Our work ensures that state waters support beneficial uses including recreational and business activities, supplies for clean drinking water, and the protection of fish, shellfish, wildlife, and public health.

 

The Water Quality Program is responsible for regulating discharges of pollutants to surface and ground waters by writing and managing wastewater and stormwater discharge permits, enforcing water quality laws, developing water quality standards and identifying water bodies that fail to meet those standards, and providing technical and financial assistance to appropriate entities to help them protect and restore Washington's waters.

Qualifications

The goal class for this position is an Environmental Engineer 3 (EE3). We will consider applicants who meet the requirements for the EE3 and EE2 levels. If the finalist meets the requirements for the EE2 level, they will be hired in at that level and will be placed into a training program to become an EE3 within a specified period of time.

A Master's degree with major study in one of the following engineering fields: sanitary water resource, civil, geotechnical, environmental, chemical, mechanical, or related field AND Registration as a Professional Engineer in the state of Washington or another state based on registration requirements equivalent to those in Washington AND two years of experience in environmental engineering.

An Engineer-In-Training Certificate or a Bachelor's degree with a major study in one of the following engineering fields: sanitary, civil, geotechnical, water resource, environmental, chemical, mechanical or related field AND Registration as a Professional Engineer in the state of Washington or another state based on registration requirements equivalent to those in Washington and AND three years of experience in environmental engineering.

 

A Ph.D. in one of the above engineering fields will substitute for two years of the environmental engineering experience.

  

NOTE: Requirements for registration as a Professional Engineer in the state of Washington are eight years of professional experience (which may include up to four years of college-level engineering education) and successful completion of sixteen hours of professional licensing exams. Applicants qualifying through the licensing equivalency option must achieve registration as a Professional Engineer in the state of Washington within six months of appointment to this class.
