Field Operations Internship

Field Operations Internship Program

Responsibilities:
As a field operations intern for PowerPollenSM, your primary responsibility will be to assist in several aspects of our technology for the 2020 corn seed production season. Other responsibilities are as follows:
Field:
  • Follow safety protocols and positively encourage other team members to do the same
  • Assist with development, implementation, execution, and improvement of experimental protocols
  • Participate in experiment setup and ensure experimental methods are followed
  • Organize field layout with tags and execute data collection
  • Logistics planning and support in seed production rescue opportunities

Greenhouse/Growth Chamber:
  • Provide support for greenhouse/growth chamber experiments as needed. This may include developing, refining and following protocols, care of plant material, sample collection, data collection and analysis, etc.
Laboratory:
  • Provide support for laboratory experiments, activities, and processes as needed. This may include developing, refining and following protocols, care of plant material, sample collection, data collection and analysis, etc. 
  • Utilize best practice laboratory skills
 
Overall:
  • Keep detailed record of activities and produce reports and data summaries
  • Driving company owned and leased vehicles safely, potentially assigned to tow/haul
  • Ability and willingness to cross-train for other jobs within the organization as needed
  • This role requires confidentiality and extreme protection of PowerPollenSM critical and proprietary assets
 
Requirements:
  • 2 or more years college level academics preferably agriculture or biology related
  • Capable and interested in working in a fast-paced environment that includes field, warehouse and lab conditions: summer heat and humidity, corn field conditions including insect exposure, uneven terrains, narrow and sight limited workspaces with active agricultural equipment in operation   
  • Valid driver’s license with good driving record – all candidates driving records will be checked
  • Willing to travel across the Midwest as needed
  • Willing to work long days as needed during peak season
  • Familiar with computer/PC/laptop operations
  • Ability to walk, stand or sit for prolonged periods
  • Ability to drive field vehicle for prolonged periods
  • Understand the seasonality of agricultural systems and the in-season time commitment
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Academic exposure in an agriculture related field will aid in understanding processes and procedures
  • Experience operating off-road vehicles beneficial
  • Prior farm, field or agricultural work a plus
