Event Coordinator Intern

Description:
Adventureland Park is looking for an enthusiastic student wishing to learn more about the hospitality industry, including event planning, event execution and customer service skills. The intern will work directly with two Account Executives at the park and will see events through their completion. Groups will consist of 15-2500 people, allowing the student to see the dynamics in handling different-sized groups. The student will be able to develop their customer service skills while building a rapport with our group contacts as well as with guests throughout the park. The intern will also play a large part in the execution of our Festival of Bands event that occurs the first two Saturdays of the park season. No place is more fun or more diverse to learn the ins and outs of hospitality than Adventureland Park!
 
Duration:
April 2020 – September 2020. The park will open on Saturday, April 25 and will be open weekends only through Sunday, May 17. The park will be open on Monday, May 18 and then will begin daily operations Friday, May 22. The intern will need to be prepared to work at least 1 day during the week of April 20 and 3-5 days a week once the park opens on April 25. Scheduled days/time off would be flexible but would need to be discussed in advance.
 
Specific Duties:
• Develop an over-all knowledge of event coordination while gaining experience in the hospitality industry
• Assist in the preparation and set-up of the Adventureland Festival of Bands. Will need to be on-site during the event to facilitate a smoothly run competition
• Prepare all picnic facilities for the upcoming season by displaying signage and checking areas over for any maintenance/construction issues that will need to be addressed before the season begins
• Greet band leaders and choir directors bringing students to perform at the park. This would include marching bands through the park and organizing choir performances on our chapel stage
• Coordinate company outings using our catering software
• Execute company outings the day of the event, including helping the group coordinators, taking meal tickets, checking over picnic areas and being a general point of contact during the event
• Miscellaneous office work such as printing promotional posters, mailing letters, etc.
• Assist other departments when necessary. This will include helping in food stands (working a cash register or making food), at picnics (helping to keep the buffet line full) or at the front gate (selling/taking tickets or making season passes)
• Participate in weekly food/sales planning meetings
 
Qualifications:
• Ability to multi-task between multiple groups and multiple projects simultaneously
• Excellent customer service skills
• Well-spoken and confident in answering questions, concerns or complaints
• Prepared to work all weekends and some holidays
• Be on feet for long periods of time, sometimes many hours of the day
• Able to work in all summer weather conditions as portions of the job are outdoors
• Self-motivated
 
Details:
• $10.50/hour
• Approximately 30-40 hours per week once the park is open daily (hours will be dependent on amount and size of events occurring any given week
• Flexible starting and ending dates
