Forage Evaluation & Sales Summer Intern

2020 FORAGE EVALUATION & SALES INTERNSHIP

Summary
This internship program is designed to give agriculturists an overview of the seed industry while gaining valuable skills working with our experienced network of dealers, agronomists, and sales managers. In addition, we will provide a unique opportunity to learn from plant breeders, represent Dairyland Seed at farm shows, and directly influence the success of Dairyland’s hybrid alfalfa.

Responsibilities
1) Lead the harvest and data management of Hybrid Alfalfa Yield (HAY) plots for assigned region
  • Coordinate with DSM’s and Customers on management and cutting schedule of alfalfa strip-trial plots
  • Accurately follow identification, harvest, sample, and data submission protocols
2) Report to Regional Sales Manager for scheduling and sales overview assistance
  • Support 8-10 DSM’s and Agronomists in regular sales, customer service, and local advertising functions
3) Participate in the Capstone experience
  • Develop a presentation on an internship-related topic of your choice

Qualifications
• Student-status towards BS or Associates Degree in Agriculture
• Located within Dairyland Seed Territory in 1 of 3 areas:
  1. Minnesota/North Dakota/South Dakota
  2. Wisconsin/Northern Illinois
  3. Michigan/Northern Indiana
• 2+ years of agricultural and leadership experience
• Valid driver’s license, with active driving & towing proficiency
• Advanced computer and software/app skills (MS Office, iPad)
• Exceptional network-building, relationship, communication, organization, and time-management skills
• Outstanding work ethic, flexibility, and enthusiasm

Compensation and Benefits
• $12/hour
• Company vehicle, with fuel and maintenance package
• Overnight accommodations and meals when traveling
• High level of autonomy; ability to set own schedule

Requirements
• Variable work hour-demand
• 30-60 hrs/wk mid-May through mid-August
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, 80 lbs w/assistance
• Ability to transport, operate, and maintain harvest equipment
• Ability to navigate uneven terrain and walk fields
• Valid driver’s license and meet MVR guidelines of company
• Overnight travel
