AmeriCorps Field Crew Leaders (ages 18-25) lead crews of 4-5 members in natural resource management projects across the Midwest. Typical projects include tree planting, exotic species management, trail construction, stream bank stabilization, prescribed burning, wildland fire fighting and emergency response. Crew Leaders assist with member training and development, perform equipment maintenance and help members improve technical skills. Leader serve as the primary liaison between project hosts and program staff and are responsible for the crew’s overall service performance and safety during a project. Crew Leaders also get the chance to work alongside conservation professionals and explore career options within the environmental field.

JOB DETAILS:
-- AmeriCorps service position (ages 18-25)
-- Term dates: February 3 – December 15, 2020
-- Schedule: Full-time, Monday-Thursday, 7:00 a.m.-5:30 p.m. typical. In some locations, hours vary significantly and overnight camping is often required 4-12 days at a time.
-- Stipend: $1690/mo
-- Education award: $6095 upon successful completion of term

-- Northwest Minnesota: Brainerd, Bemidji, Fergus Falls
-- Northeast Minnesota: Grand Rapids, Moose Lake, Gooseberry Falls State Park, Duluth
-- Central Minnesota: St. Paul, Rogers, Shakopee, Andover, Carver, Plymouth
-- Southern Minnesota: Rochester, Mankato
-- Iowa: Des Moines, Council Bluffs

QUALIFICATIONS:
-- Positive attitude and interest in service and community work.
-- Previous experience in a leadership role and ability to lead or co-lead a crew of 4 or 5 members (ages 18-25).
-- Effective communication skills.
-- Experience or education in natural resource management, habitat restoration work and/or related fields.
-- Experience in hand and power tool safety and small engine repair is preferred.
-- Positive attitude and interest in service and community work.
-- Dedication to complete the full term of AmeriCorps service. 

REQUIREMENTS:
-- 18-25 years old.
-- Able to complete an arduous Work Capacity Test. The arduous level requires individuals to walk 3 miles in 45 minutes while carrying a 45 pound pack on level terrain.
-- Able to perform the Essential Service Functions 40 hours/week
-- Flexible schedule to accommodate week-long out of town assignments.
-- Flexible schedule to accommodate up to 30 days of out of town emergency response.
-- Valid driver’s license and safe driving record (no major moving violations or DUI’s in the past five years).
-- Full term of service must be completed in order to receive the education award.
