Full-time Mental Health Therapist (Pre-K - 5th grade)

Job Description
Due to the growth of our Behavioral Health Department, award-winning Myrtue Medical Center located in Harlan, IA currently has an opening for a Full-time Mental Health Therapist serving students in Pre-K-5th grade. Myrtue's Mental Health School-based Therapy program recently was recognized by Iowa's Governor as a leader in integrated school-based mental health services for students, and a model to replicate across the state. The Behavioral Health Department has grown tremendously in recent years, and our dynamic team offers a wide variety of evidence-based therapies. We are interested in team members who share our dedication and passion to enable school-aged students to overcome behavioral, emotional and social problems that interrupt success at school and home.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Mental Health Therapist (Pre-K through 5th Grade) will be assigned to the Harlan Community School District and Shelby County Catholic Schools and their buildings. This position is responsible for providing a comprehensive array of clinical services, including but not limited to assessment, individual and family therapy for student Pre-K through 5th Grade. The Mental Health Therapist serves as an active participant in all clinical programs for the department and is responsible for providing a comprehensive array of clinical services delivered at the school including but not limited to behavioral health evaluation, individual and family therapy, behavioral health crisis intervention, consultation and education. The right candidate will have a heart for children with some training in play therapy and TFCBT. 
KEY JOB AREAS:
  • Provides needs assessment
  • Conducts therapy sessions with client(s) and groups 
  • Refers and collaborates with other agencies and practitioners having a joing interest in meeting needs of the client
  • Review cases to assure quality of care
  • Performs consultation and education
  • Works with school administration to draft, review and adjust service delivery processes as needed for client outcomes and continuity of care
  • Provides outreach services, especially with school staff and parent
  • Works closely with local Department of Human Services (DHS) and/or Child Protective Services (CPS)
REQUIREMENTS:
  • A Masters degree in Human Service field such as Counseling, Social Work or other mental health related field
  • Experience equivalent to two years and field experience in a similar setting during educational process
  • Eligible to be licensed in the state of Iowa to practice as a LMHC, LISW or MFT
SCHEDULE:
Full-time (40 hours); Monday-Friday; 7:30 am - 4:30 pm
