Landscape Water Conservation Specialist

SALARY: $4,665- $5,617/mo.

THE POSITION
Under supervision, Landscape Water Conservation Specialists plan, develop and implement the City's landscape water conservation program and review landscape designs for water efficiency. Incumbents perform landscape surveys, to include consulting and assisting customers on panning issues related to water efficient landscape and regulations; water audits; water wise horticulture consultations and landscape evaluations for large and small landscape sites.
 
One current vacancy exists in the Department of Public Utilities, Water Division. Immediate and future vacancies will be filled from this eligible list for a period of six (6) months from the date the eligible list is created, with the option of extending that period at the City's discretion. If the examination process is suspended for this recruitment, the eligible list may be limited to three (3) months.

THE REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications on or before the posted filing deadline in order to qualify for the examination and do not assure placement on the eligible list.
 
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in environmental science, horticulture, plant pathology, or closely related field; and two (2) years of experience in water efficient irrigation systems and landscape design, which included planting and maintenance activities. Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
 
If qualifying with education, a copy of degree or college transcripts must be uploaded and included in your on-line application for verification of requirement. Applicants lacking the documentation may be rejected.
 
Possession of a valid California Driver's License is required at time of appointment. Candidates considered for hire must provide proof of a valid driver's license and current copy of their driving record.  
 
The selected eligible candidates certified will be required to successfully pass a Department interview, an extensive pre-employment background and a Department of Justice fingerprint prior to employment with the City of Fresno.

3. Under "Career Tools", click on Cover letters and Attachments.

5. For "Attachment Type", choose Transcripts.
6. For "Attachment Purpose", enter the name of the document 
7. Click on Add attachment.
8. Click on Save and Return. 
 
Selection Process 
The examination process may consist of the following:  
 
Written Examination : 100%: A job-related written examination will be administered which may test a candidate's knowledge of sprinkling and irrigation devices used in water efficient landscapes, arboriculture, nursery practices, tree cultivation, soils, fertilizers and pesticides, ability to perform site and plan reviews and develop and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the performance of assigned duties. Candidates must achieve a passing score on the Written Examination to qualify for placement on the eligible list.
 
The written exam date is to be determined. 
 
VETERAN’S PREFERENCE
Qualified veterans who pass the examination may obtain five (5) additional points.
Candidates applying for veteran's preference are required to submit a copy of their DD214 with their application during the specified filing period. Evidence must be presented to indicate that the candidate was discharged honorably from the military service. Veterans, including City employees, must resubmit proof of honorable service for every examination for which veteran's preference credit is requested.
