ACE EPIC NPS GA: Jimmy Carter NHP - Interpretation and Resource Intern

Summary:  American Conservation Experience (ACE), a nonprofit conservation corps, in partnership with the National Park Service (NPS), is seeking ONE Interpretation and Resource Intern interested in dedicating 52-weeks to the Jimmy Carter National Historic Site. This position will have primary focus at the Jimmy Carter Boyhood Farm. Set to 1937, this exhibit farm provides visitors opportunities to see first-hand a small, working farm with animals and crops.  Duties will include garden work, animal care, and providing formal and informal interpretation.
 
Start Date: November 12, 2019 (flexibility may exist for the right candidate)
End Date: November 7, 2020 (or 52 weeks after start date)
*A 52-week minimum commitment is required*
 
Location: Jimmy Carter National Historic Site, GA.
Jimmy Carter National Historic Site is located in Plains, Georgia. Plains is a rural community in Southwest Georgia with full services available in Americus, GA (10 miles); Albany, GA (40 miles); and Columbus, GA (50 miles).

Living Allowance: The ACE Intern is expected to contribute ~40 hours/week and will receive a living allowance of $520/week to cover the costs of food and incidental expenses, dispersed bi-weekly. An additional one time relocation stipend not-to-exceed $650 is available.
 
Housing: Housing is the responsibility of the intern and not provided by ACE or NPS.
 
Position Description: The intern's primary duties will be at Jimmy Carter Boyhood Farm. The intern's primary responsibilities will include: garden work, animal care, and providing formal and informal interpretation.
The intern will receive training in frontline interpretive operations and will receive interpretive coaching.
 
Qualifications: 
Required:
  • Willing and able to represent ACE and the partner organization in a professional, positive, and enthusiastic manner. 
  • Must have excellent communication skills and be able to educate guests of all backgrounds about programs and Park information
  • Willing to perform duties indoors and outdoors when needed
  • Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Proven ability to be both self-directed/work alone, and be a positive, contributing member of a group
  • Proficient in English
  • Must be 21-35 years of age (age requirement is due to the Public Land Corps Act requirements. Additionally, members must be at least 21 to apply for any ACE position that requires or anticipates operation of agency or ACE vehicles for duties.)
  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • A valid driver's license and an insurable driving record (documentation to be provided upon request)
  • Willing to undergo and must pass a federal criminal background check
Preferred:
  • Knowledge or background in agriculture and/or farm animal care.
  • Interested in interpretation and interacting with the general public on a regular basis 
  • A degree (or be pursuing towards a degree) in natural resource management, agriculture, cultural/historic preservation or a related discipline. A combination of relevant education and appropriate experience is also acceptable.
