Research Assistant Position in Microbiology Drug Discovery
Description: The Natural Products Discovery Group at the University of Oklahoma (http://npdg.ou.edu/) is dedicated to the identification of bioactive compounds from microorganisms, especially fungi. The group is seeking a research associate for a full-time hourly position.
Qualifications: B.S. or M.S. degree in microbiology or related field; prior experience with proper aseptic technique handling microorganisms is required
Tasks to be performed: Handle and manipulate fungal cultures derived from soil samples, prepare samples for cryogenic storages, database entry and management, PCR and ITS based identification of isolates, preparation of media, perform sample extraction, preparation of fungal natural products for testing (additional tasks will be added as required)
Required skills and qualifications: Ability to work with a team; mindful of details; task oriented; self-motivated; attention to laboratory safety; excellent time management skills; manual dexterity handling vials, pipets, and other labware; ability to clearly articulate problems and propose solutions
