Education Specialist Mild/Moderate or Moderate/Severe San Diego, CA

The Education Specialist provides: 1) support for the instructional program for students with special needs, 2) pertinent information and consultant services to staff members and parents, 3) on-going student assessment and evaluation, 4) on-going planning with regular resource center instructors.

Essential Functions/Duties
·Develops educational plans for the purpose of meeting the individual needs of exceptional students.
·Evaluates students for the purpose of identifying student needs.
·Teaches/instructs students for the purpose of ensuring successful progress towards student's goals and objectives.
·Coordinates services to students for the purpose of ensuring efficient instructions and an effective cohesive program.
·Consults/collaborates with staff, parents, and agencies for the purpose of ensuring appropriate delivery of services and adherence to due process.
·Schedules services for students for the purpose of providing efficient and effective services for students
·Maintains all special education records and timelines on compliance issues

·Various academic assessment tools in reading, language arts, and mathematics.
·Strategies for student motivation.
·Instructional strategies involving computerization.

·Laws and regulations related to special education.

Skill to:
·Work with students from all ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
·Administer, score, and interpret academic assessment testing and develop applicable goals and objectives for student services.
·Provide consultant services to regular Resource Center Instructors and ancillary staff.
·Evaluate effectiveness of strategies and techniques used and adjust instruction and delivery
·Work with teachers to develop and maintain teaming/communication
·Modify core curriculum and implement appropriate teaching strategies

Certification:
· Education Specialist Credential or Resource Specialist Certificate; a valid California driver's license and proof of automobile insurance (must provide own transportation to and from different sites)

- SPED Credential - Autism Authorization Certificate CSSD Certificated Application (EDjoin application), Resume, Three Reference Letters, copies of a valid credential. Documents delivered online, or brought at time of interview. The successful candidate will have the outstanding ability to engage and motivate students toward success; knowledge and experience with curriculum and teaching strategies; ability to facilitate learning and develop individualized education plans; counseling an facilitation skills; thrive on challenge, autonomy, and accountability; excellent organization, time management, and record keeping skills; experience with special student populations: at risk, gifted, learning handicapped, ESL, etc.; be creative and resourceful; possess computer skills; the ability to administer the complex operation of a resource center. Math, Science and Technology skills are in great demand, but applicants in all subject areas are encouraged to apply. Qualifications include CA single-or multi-subject credential or credential eligible (i.e., relevant course credits for a single or multi-subject credential, CBEST, and enrolled in a recognized teacher education program), experience teaching or counseling 7th-12th grade students. Valid California driver license and transportation required.
