Position Summary:
The National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Oregon and Southwest Washington Chapter is offering an exciting internship within the Volunteer Engagement department. The internship can provide school credit and offers valuable experience in the non-profit, fundraising, and event planning industries. This internship is ideal for someone seeking a career in non-profit, development, volunteer engagement, marketing, fundraising, and/or communications. Selected intern(s) will play a vital role by helping drive our volunteer management program and provide ongoing support to volunteers. Candidates must have excellent customer service skills, be self-motivated, a team player, results-oriented, and dedicated to making a difference in the lives of people living with and affected by MS.

Intern(s) will assist in the coordination of event production, logistics, finalizing event preparations, researching organizations for outreach and recruitment, and provide support for volunteer training. Intern(s) will gain invaluable project management experience, mentoring, and insight into non-profit administration. Intern(s) will receive orientation/training from Volunteer Engagement staff.

PART II. Essential Functions/Responsibilities:   

 Day to Day
o  Each day this intern will work closely with the Volunteer Engagement Director and/or Sr. Manager to recruit, train, retain, and position volunteers across a Walk MS and Bike MS events in Oregon and SW Washington. (50%)

 Specific Responsibilities
o  Event Production and Management
o  Researching/Data Mining
o  Relationship building and retention
o  Volunteer recruitment and management
o  Utilize recruitment resources
o  Utilize local NMSS website and internet to promote events
o  Conduct outreach to community, civic, and faith groups
o  Attend volunteer fairs
o  Office duties: bulk mailings, recruitment phone calls, database management
o  Other duties as assigned

o  Ability to demonstrate a broad range of relevant communication skills and strategies.
o  Acquire experience in event management involving large groups of participants and volunteers.
o  Effectively communicate and facilitate meaningful opportunities across functions resulting in cultivation of volunteers.
