Spring Intern, Eastern Europe and Eurasia
Company Overview
The Europe and Eurasia team is currently expanding its anti-corruption compliance work in the Europe and Eurasia region. The Intern will assist the team with research and analysis of country conditions, business sector preparedness, and government actions in terms of anti-corruption compliance. The Intern will also identify and research both the internal (domestic) and external (international) drivers for anti-corruption compliance in each country.
Reports To: Program Officer, Eurasia
Time frame: Interns are expected to start by January 21, 2020 and commit a minimum of 20 hours per week. This internship is unpaid; a transportation stipend is provided.
Learning Objectives:
- Acquire working knowledge and skills in legal analysis and anti-corruption issues
- Demonstrate in-depth research analysis skills.
- Enhance ability to produce written materials for various platforms including databases, social media and briefings.
- Network and establish professional contacts by attending events held by CIPE and other Washington, DC-based organizations.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
- Research and develop a benchmark establishing the necessary elements of anti-corruption laws or anti-corruption legal frameworks for countries considering relevant reforms.
- Update and maintain resource materials for the team listservs and internal database.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Undergraduate juniors or seniors, graduate, or law students are encouraged to apply.
- Strong research, analytical and writing skills.
- Demonstrated interest in international issues related to democratic transitions and the role of market-oriented reform in promoting democratic development.
- Ability to consolidate and synthesize large amounts of information and present in an organized and concise way.
- Familiarity with the Europe and Eurasia region’s economic and political environment.
- Basic understanding of corporate anti-corruption compliance requirements and international standards.
- Basic understanding of the business operating environment in the countries in the portfolio.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English required; proficiency in Russian a plus.
