Spring Intern, Evaluation Unit

Company Overview
The Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE) is seeking an Evaluation Intern who will gain a deep understanding of program evaluation at all stages of the project lifecycle. The Evaluation Department works with CIPE’s programmatic teams to design and carry out successful evaluations of projects. The Intern will support the Evaluation Department with data management, research, and program evaluation by working directly with programs. The Intern will also work across regional units to support training and internal capacity building. .  
Reports To: Evaluation Assistant, Evaluation Department
Time frame: Interns are expected to start by January 21, 2020 and commit a minimum of 20 hours per week. This internship is unpaid; a transportation stipend is provided.
Learning Objectives:
  • Understand results-based democratization and program evaluation.
  • Enhance research, data management, and critical thinking skills.
  • Learn about monitoring tools, evaluation methodology, and organizational learning.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
  • Compile lessons learned from completed projects, organize, and distribute findings to staff.
  • Work with the Evaluation Department on the development of an Evaluation Handbook, incorporating existing resources and identifying information or tool gaps.
  • Write blogs or prepare evaluation reports to be shared with the public on CIPE’s website.
  • Assist in designing and delivering training to CIPE program staff on evaluation skills.
  • Build an in-house searchable database of indicators for different types of democratization programs.
  • Assist in the team’s review of in-house project proposals and final reports for evaluability and impact assessment.
  • Draft templates for project data collection, develop a system for data management (Excel, Access, SPSS, etc) and enter data from completed forms.
  • Work with the Evaluation Department on a project to define organizational indicators.
 
Qualifications and Requirements:
  • Graduate or undergraduate student (junior standing or higher) studying Program Evaluation, International Relations, Political Science, Economics, Statistics, Public Policy, or another related social sciences field.
  • Demonstrated interest in international issues surrounding democratic governance, entrepreneurial ecosystems, the role of civil society in promoting policy reform, etc. ​​​​​
  • Demonstrated ability to gather and analyze information
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications and knowledge of SPSS (or similar statistical analysis software).
