ORISE Research Opportunity: Postdoctoral Fellow with the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command’s Chemical Biological Center (CCDC-CBC)

The U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command’s Chemical Biological Center (CCDC-CBC) serves as the Department of Defense's primary technical organization for non-medical chemical and biological defense. The directorate specializes in engineering, technical and acquisition capabilities that bring solutions from concept to development—through design, prototyping, and experimentation, to full-service chemical and biological testing, to fielding, training and sustainment. This research opportunity will be located within the CBC's BioSciences Division of the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command Chemical Biological Center (CCDC Chemical Biological Center) at the Edgewood portion of Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland. CCDC Chemical Biological Center activities span the life cycle of chemical and biological defense research and product development. As a CCDC participant, you will take part in projects that focuses on automated biological detection from air samples. Research will include sample collection, sample preparation, and detection assay development. This project includes the exploration of biological, chemical and physical phenomenon with the aim of designing a novel device for unmanned and remote biological detection. This experience will provide you the opportunity to showcase your knowledge as you will be provided guidance and training to explore federal research methods and protocols. Your mentor will also develop learning objects to fit your personal career development goals, while providing knowledge and understanding that will prepare you for your future in the labor force.

This appointment is a twelve month research appointment, with the possibility to be renewed for additional research periods. Appointments may be extended depending on funding availability, project assignment, program rules, and availability of the participant.. The Desired ORISE Appointment Start Date is November 12, 2019.

Participants will receive a stipend to be determined by USACCBC. Stipends are typically based on the participant’s academic standing, discipline, experience, and research facility location. Other benefits may include the following:
