The Toxics Cleanup Program (TCP) program within the Department of Ecology is looking to hire a Site Manager - Environmental Engineer (Environmental Engineer 3) working out of our Eastern Regional Office (ERO) in Spokane, WA.

The Site Manager - Environmental Engineer position actively applies engineering and scientific principles toward the investigation and cleanup of contaminated sites. Professional responsibilities include front-line site manager duties, involving the protection of human health and environment, as well as, producing and evaluating engineering and other elements of environmental remedial action work. 

The ideal candidate would be a team player with good people skills and be able to work independently as well.

Duties
 
Accidental spills of dangerous materials and past business practices have contaminated land and water throughout the state. The Toxics Cleanup Program (TCP) works to remedy these situations, which range from cleaning up contamination from leaking underground storage tanks, to remediating large, complex projects requiring substantial engineering solutions. Our mission is to get and keep contaminants out of the environment.
 
Some of the Key Work Activities for the Site Manager - Environmental Engineer position include:
  • Manages and/or oversees the investigation and cleanup of contaminated sites for compliance with MTCA and other relevant laws and regulations at contaminated sites.
  • Applies environmental and construction management engineering processes expertise to the evaluation of cleanup plans, data, and results.
  • Conducts evaluations of cleanup activities reported under the MTCA regulations.
  • Site evaluations will be conducted by field inspections, verification sampling, reviewing and interpreting environmental data and reports, and report writing.
  • Activities will include report review and comment, working with the Attorney General's office, providing engineering support to the section, successfully working with HQ in preparing bid and contact documents, and respond to public inquiries in a timely professional manner.
  • Solves a variety of problems from the technical and procedural venue. 
  • Works to protect the State of Washington's resources.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:

A Master's degree with major study in one of the following engineering fields: sanitary water resource, civil, geotechnical, environmental, chemical, mechanical, or related field. 
 
AND
 
Registration as a professional engineer in the State of Washington or another state based on registration requirements equivalent to those in Washington and two years of experience in environmental engineering. 
 
OR
 
A Bachelor's degree with a major study in one of the following engineering fields: sanitary, civil, geotechnical, water resource, environmental, chemical, mechanical or related field.
 
AND
 
Registration as a professional engineer in the State of Washington or another state based on registration requirements equivalent to those in Washington and three years of experience in environmental engineering. 
 
NOTE: A Ph.D in one of the above engineering fields will substitute for two years of the environmental engineering experience.


Desired Qualifications:

Strong technical writing skills including clear and concise conveyance of information to internal and external audiences. A capacity for scientific data assimilation, analysis, interpretation, and reporting. Ability to complete routine application work with database and spreadsheet software for data management and interpretation.
 
Special Requirements / Conditions of Employment:

•   Valid Driver's License. 
•   40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations Certification within 120 days of appointment. 
•   State of Washington Registered Professional Engineering License.
