Life Sciences Career Trainee, Opt. E, Collinsville

Under direction of the Collinsville Region Manager, Field Operation Section (FOS), in the Bureau of Land (BOL), participates in the Agency sponsored training program of twelve months' duration. Receives work assignments designed to perform beginning level duties related to routine and scientific field inspections/investigations.

Education and Experience: Requires a bachelor's degree in a physical, life or environmental science field. This class is included as an Upward Mobility Program credential title.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Requires ability to prepare comprehensive written and oral reports; requires ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; requires ability to profit from training received in the designated area of state government; requires ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with other employees and agency representatives.

Specific Job Requirements: Requires ability to participate in a medical monitoring program and be able to pass a physical examination, which is intended to determine whether a person can wear respiratory protection and function in high heat stress situations while wearing chemical protective clothing; ability of wearing a respirator or other form of respiratory protection (subject to 29 CFR 1910.134) and participate in medical monitoring to so demonstrate; carry and utilize a self-contained breathing apparatus (weighing approximately 25 pounds}; in addition to wearing respiratory protection mentioned above, ability to wear chemical resistant clothing in high heat stress situations while performing strenuous physical tasks (e.g. carrying equipment up a steep ravine at a temperature of 100F}; to lift heavy equipment (e.g. 45 pounds); hearing and eye sight must be good or correctable in order to respond to emergency field conditions. Requires ability to operate a computer using word processing, spreadsheet, and database software to evaluate facilities. Must have a valid Illinois driver's license for ability to drive to sites with possible overnight stays.
