Director, Editorial and Media Relations

The University of Nebraska at Omaha is seeking a
Director of Editorial and Media Relations
University Communications

Reporting to the Executive Director of University Communications, the Director of Editorial & Media Relations is responsible for guiding strategic internal and external communication to protect and promote UNO’s brand.
Specific areas of oversight include media relations, crisis communication / reputation management, editorial content creation, organic social media strategy and internal communication channels, such as UNO’s student and employee email newsletters.
This position oversees critical office media relations functions, including identification of earned media opportunities, development of relationships with journalists, tracking of media mentions and evaluation of Return on Investment (ROI) for strategically beneficial stories. This position serves as a point person for media requests, including during emergencies or crisis events. The Director will support crisis communication and serve as a Public Information Officer if UNO’s Emergency Operations Center is activated. The Director will need to be reachable 24/7 in the event of an emergency or incident posing significant reputational risk.
This position also guides editorial content creation and organic social media strategy, leveraging owned media channels to share important information and cultivate positive community perceptions. The Director will work closely with University Communications staff working in the areas of Digital Communications, Marketing, Events and Government Relations to ensure unified messaging.
The Director and their direct reports also provide communication assistance to the Office of the Chancellor upon request through talking point development, video creation and other periodic executive communication support.

Required Qualifications:
·        Bachelor’s Degree
·        Minimum five years’ progressively responsible integrated marketing communications and/or public relations and crisis communications experience including prior supervisory experience.
·        Valid Driver’s License
