Quality Assurance Manager

The state office in Boise is hiring a quality assurance (QA) manager to oversee DEQ's statewide QA program. This position will make independent decisions on all aspects of the QA program, conduct audits and reviews of critical programs, contracts, or agreements, and report decisions to the supervisor, supervising division administrator, deputy director, or director, as appropriate.

Example of Duties:
  • Develop and maintain DEQ's quality management plan (QMP).
  • Perform all duties and requirements of the QA manager as described in the approved QMP.
  • Develop and maintain DEQ's quality management system (QMS) as described by the QMP, including quality assurance project plan (QAPP) templates, standard operating procedure (SOP) templates, template instructions, and related guidance.
  • Serve as the primary agency representative on all QMS-related matters such as periodic external audits, corrective action plans and reports, and agency compliance with the QMP.
  • Develop and maintain the electronic document management filing system and structure for all QMS program administration-related documents and records.
  • Provide reports and recommendations on QMS program status and issues to immediate supervisor, supervising division administrator, deputy director, director, and regional administrator.

Minimum Qualifications:

Good knowledge of: Science or engineering methods and principles, federal and state environmental regulations, quality assurance and quality control principles and evaluation methodologies, and environmental agency functions and operations.

Some knowledge of training methods. 

Supplemental Information:

Preferred but not required: Bachelors or master's degree in science or engineering discipline is preferred that included training and use of statistical methods.

Physical requirements:
  • Ability to sit and work on a computer for 2-4 hours at a time
  • Ability to reach and bend for filing purposes
  • Some periods of heavy reading and typing required
  • Ability to lift 30 pounds when working with file boxes
  • Some travel may be required
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Field sites may involve working near and with drilling rigs, backhoes, trucks and other large equipment in rough terrain
  • Occasional travel required
  • May work in vicinity of loud noise
  • May come into contact with hazardous waste/materials
