Agronomic Research Intern

Southern Minnesota Beet Sugar Cooperative (SMBSC) has a great opportunity for a student pursuing a degree in agronomy, agricultural science and technology, or other related field to join our team as a Research Intern. The purpose of the Research Intern is to assist Southern Minnesota Beet Sugar Cooperative’s agronomic research team with field research including variety testing, fertility trials, disease nurseries, and weed control trials. This internship will provide the opportunity to learn about sugar beet production practices and the detailed work that goes into conducting quality agronomic research trials through hands-on experience. 

Responsibilities
 
Trial Work
  • Assist in data collection from research trials, including stand counts, disease ratings, harvest data, etc.
  • Trial maintenance utilizing tractor and ATV operation
  • Assist in various tasks that require attention to detail
 
Equipment Management
  • Operate and maintain field equipment
 
Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills
  • Pursuing a degree in agronomy, agricultural science and technology or other related fields
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Must have a strong work ethic with the ability to maintain a satisfactory record of attendance and conduct; must be able to work overtime as required
  • Strong oral communication skills with the ability to relay information to other team members in a timely and efficient manner
  • The ability to work outside, performing tasks requiring manual labor
