Recreation Internship- Summer 2020

Spend your summer gaining valuable experience in the parks and recreation field with a full-time internship at the Glenview Park District!

  • Apply your academic knowledge to hands-on, real world situations
  • Explore the diverse operations of the Glenview Park District
  • Complete and present a special project to the Park District's leadership team
  • Network with other recreation professionals
  • Develop the skills necessary to be successful in your career

This 8-10 week position reports directly to the Superintendent of Leisure Services. Interns receive $10.50/hour to be paid on a biweekly basis.

Learning Objectives:
  • Develop interpersonal and professional skills
  • Gain exposure to the parks and recreation field
  • Interact and work with elected officials
  • Understand the breadth of what parks and recreation has to offer
  • Learn what it means to work for a public sector
  • Work with a variety of different management styles

Gain mentoring and training from full-time staff:
  • Work directly under the Superintendent of Leisure Services, including weekly meetings
  • Support multiple full-time staff members within the park district
  • Job shadow for multiple positions within the park district
  • Complete a post-internship evaluation with the Superintendent of Leisure services

Tasks and responsibilities:
  • Facilitate and complete a major cumulative project (decided on by intern and Superintendent of Leisure Services) and present to the leadership team
  • Act as a contributing staff member for the duration of the internship
  • Serve as support staff to the leadership team
  • Attend committee meetings
  • Work across departments

Desired skills and qualifications:
  • Must be a current college student
  • Does not have to be a parks and recreation student, but a genuine interest in parks and recreation is a must
  • Should have the ability to multitask and prioritize projects based on importance
  • A willingness to learn is required
  • Operate with a high level of professionalism
