Summer 2020 Health Policy Intern

 The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (CBPP) is one of the nation’s leading nonprofits working on public policy issues affecting low-income families and individuals. It has a national reputation for conducting rigorous research and analysis, developing policy ideas and strategies, shaping a broad array of policy debates at the federal and state levels, and influencing policy outcomes. It works on budget and tax policy, health care, and a range of programs important to low-income people. The Center’s funding comes from private foundations and individuals.   

The Health Policy division is involved actively in policy discussions related to the Affordable Care Act (ACA), Medicaid, children’s health insurance, and other health care issues that affect low- and moderate- income families. The health policy intern assists in all aspects of this process including research, qualitative and quantitative analysis, data collection and management, and strategic problem solving with the ultimate objective being to develop an understanding of how various administrative policies and legislative proposals will affect families, and federal and state budgets.   
 
Requirements:    
· Education: Current undergraduate students, graduate/PhD students, or recent graduates   
· Coursework in health care policy, social statistics, or research methods is desirable   
· Candidates should have a demonstrated interest in health care policy, general familiarity with the ACA, Medicaid, and Children’s Health Insurance Programs   
· Basic quantitative and analytic skills, and the ability to synthesize large amount of data   
· Experience translating policy into public products through writing or graphics work preferred   
· Understanding and appreciation for the Center’s mission, and interest in improving health care for low-income families   
· Basic familiarity with U.S. health insurance infrastructure

Summer 2020 internship start dates: May 26, 2020 and June 1, 2020  
  
Compensation:    
  • Doctoral students may receive between $16.00 - $19.00, depending on progress towards completion of degree requirements, relevant coursework, and research.  
  • Students with a master’s or law degree receive $17.00 per hour.  
  • Graduate students receive $16.00 per hour.  
  • Students with a bachelor's degree receive $15.00 per hour.  
  • Undergraduate students receive $14.00 per hour.
