Summer 2020 State Fiscal Project Outreach Intern

The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (CBPP) is one of the nation’s leading nonprofits working on public policy issues affecting low-income families and individuals. It has a national reputation for conducting rigorous research and analysis, developing policy ideas and strategies, shaping a broad array of policy debates at the federal and state levels, and influencing policy outcomes. It works on budget and tax policy, health care, and a range of programs important to low-income people. The Center’s funding comes from private foundations and individuals.

The State Fiscal Project (SFP) works to ensure that all communities are economically secure and all people have the opportunity to thrive through responsible state tax and budget policies. In addition, SFP coordinates and supports the State Priorities Partnership, a network of 43 state-level organizations engaged in state fiscal policy work and helps state partners in the network and beyond engage in federal policy debates.

The SFP Outreach and Campaigns Team supports the advocacy and campaign strategies of groups in the State Priorities Partnership, including helping them build coalitions, educate policymakers and the public, and shape the public debate on key budget, tax, and safety net issues.

Outreach interns play a critical role in this work. Interns research, track, and provide background summaries on key state and federal policy action; attend and report on meetings of partners, allies, and other related organizations; and complete other special projects.
