Summer 2020-Data Analysis Intern

The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (CBPP) is one of the nation’s leading nonprofits working on public policy issues affecting low-income families and individuals. It has a national reputation for conducting rigorous research and analysis, developing policy ideas and strategies, shaping a broad array of policy debates at the federal and state levels, and influencing policy outcomes. It works on budget and tax policy, health care, and a range of programs important to low-income people. The Center’s funding comes from private foundations and individuals.

The Center’s Data Analysis team works with a group of skilled national policy analysts on a range of policy issues and research topics affecting lower-income families and individuals in the United States. Topics may include the implications of policy choices affecting cash assistance, taxation and tax credits, food assistance, housing programs, and health programs, as well as income trends, the causes and consequences of poverty, and techniques of poverty measurement. The Data Analysis team collects, prepares, and summarizes data and academic research; develops graphics and written presentations of findings; and examines pending legislative and policy options.

Requirements:
  • Education: Recent graduates and graduate students
  • At least two semesters of quantitative coursework in econometrics, research methods, statistics, math, computer science, etc., with high GPA
  • Candidates should have strong quantitative skills and computer programming skills (STATA, SPSS, or SAS)
  • Great attention to detail and the ability to meet strict deadlines
  • Experience with low-income programs is a plus, but not required
  • Applicant should have a stated interest in poverty, welfare, work programs, or social policy
  • Interest in the Center’s mission

Summer 2020 internship start dates: May 26, 2020 and June 1, 2020

Compensation:
  • Doctoral students may receive between $16.00 - $19.00, depending on progress towards completion of degree requirements, relevant coursework, and research.
  • Students with a master’s or law degree receive $17.00 per hour.
  • Graduate students receive $16.00 per hour.
  • Students with a bachelor's degree receive $15.00 per hour.
  • Undergraduate students receive $14.00 per hour.
