Summer 2020 Federal Fiscal Policy Intern
The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (CBPP) is one of the nation’s leading nonprofits working on public policy issues affecting low-income families and individuals. It has a national reputation for conducting rigorous research and analysis, developing policy ideas and strategies, shaping a broad array of policy debates at the federal and state levels, and influencing policy outcomes. It works on budget and tax policy, health care, and a range of programs important to low-income people. The Center’s funding comes from private foundations and individuals.
The Federal Fiscal Policy team informs the debate over federal budget priorities by analyzing major federal budget and tax proposals. Our work places particular emphasis on the adequacy of funding for programs that assist low- and moderate-income families and the effects of tax proposals on households at different income levels. We also analyze long-term budget challenges and trends in the level of federal revenues, income distribution, and tax burdens. The federal fiscal policy intern will research specific subjects related to these policy areas, collect and analyze economic data, and assist in our monitoring of related research and policy developments.
Requirements:
- Education: Current undergraduate students or recent graduates with a bachelor’s degreeO
- Strong preference for majors in a subject that requires economic thinking or the ability to work with numbers, e.g., economics, math, public policy, computing, business subjects, or sciences — or at least a minor with strong or improving grades in these topics
- Strong GPA or clear trajectory of improvement, particularly in relevant courses
- Candidates should have an interest in federal fiscal as well as low-income policy issues. Prior experience with these issues and/or related classes preferred but not required
- Strong quantitative and writing skills, and some prior research and/or data analysis experience
- Strong Excel or Stata skills
- Strong preference is given to candidates who are able to work full time over the duration of the internship.

Compensation:
· Doctoral students may receive between $16.00 - $19.00, depending on progress towards completion of degree requirements, relevant coursework, and research.
· Students with a master’s or law degree receive $17.00 per hour.
· Graduate students receive $16.00 per hour.
· Students with a bachelor's degree receive $15.00 per hour.
· Undergraduate students receive $14.00 per hour.
