People working on the Wolf Ridge Organic Farm will assist with the care, management and education of and about the farm fields, greenhouse facilities, growing beds, tools and equipment.

Responsibilities of Organic Farm Internship

  • Construction
  • Chainsaw clearing, cement work, brick oven building
  • Compost turning and maintenance
  • Seeding, planting weeding and harvesting
  • Pest and disease control
  • Soil amendments
  • Farm maintenance – chainsaw clearing, cement work, driving tractors and farm truck
  • Speaking with the public and guests of Wolf Ridge about the farm. Including farm tours and educational programs
  • Driving for youth and adults programming
  • Teaching opportunities for groups of youth and adults may be available

Learning Outcomes

The Intern will learn
  • Soil chemistry, biology and physics
  • Basics of planting, weeding and harvesting
  • Plant biology, organic pest management and disease control
  • Appropriate methods and care with equipment and tools
  • How to present and evaluate public programs
  • To become competent at teaching a 3-hour class on agriculture and related subjects
  • To gain an understanding of plants, food systems and organic agriculture

Work Schedule

  • Variable averaging 40 hours/week. Holidays and weekends are included but schedule may vary
  • The Farm Manager will mentor and supervise the intern.

Compensation

  • On campus housing and food is available in summer
  • Credit for this internship can be arranged through the intern’s current college or university

Education, Experience and Internship Requirements

  • Junior or senior in college
  • In good physical condition and able to lift or carry 50 pounds
  • Excitement for learning
  • Drivers License
  • Position conditional upon acceptable background screening
