Intern - Precision Medicine, Summer 2020

These positions are in Precision Medicine within Clinical Development & Regulatory Affairs in Tarrytown, New York. There are 4 openings for Summer 2020. Each opening is described below.

Position 1:
This student will assist in Precision Medicine initiatives to inform clinical studies through analytical, computational, and novel scientific/technological strategies. Support biomarker and diagnostic studies for clinical programs by overseeing and performing exploratory analysis of genomic, transcriptomic, proteomic, RWD, and other exploratory data. Support in the development of scientific methodologies and software for querying, visualizing, analyzing, and interpreting data to advance the capabilities of the Precision Medicine department to answer scientific questions through computational means.

Possible projects include:
1.Investigate the current methodologies that are being used to summarize high sampling frequency data structures derived from wearables and IoT devices/fitness data (e.g., Fitbit, Apple Watch, etc). Summarize findings and incorporate into tools for use.
2.Develop R Shinies to further streamline the analyses performed within Precision Medicine. R Shinies might be for many different types of data these could include, but are not limited to:

•Publicly available databases

•Cytokine Data

•IHC data

•Flow cytometry data

•Transcriptomic (RNAseq) data
3.Develop methodologies/RShiny app for power calculations across different types of data sets, including RNAseq and other omics data, digital health outputs, and other clinical trial-related measured outcomes. Investigate best practices for power calculations and implement gold standard for each datatype.

Position 2:
This position is in the Precision Medicine Department of ECD&ES at Tarrytown, NY. The student will participate in an ongoing project to develop a Clinical Biomarker Assay portal. This portal will serve as a information repository for clinical biomarker assays currently available at the Central and Specialty Labs, including clinical technology all all platforms, e.g., immunoassay, LCMS, flowcytometry, IHC, etc. The searchable function will allow easy access for the available analytical biomarker assays at different vendors, and their applications in the Regeneron clinical studies.

Position 3:
This student will assist in early clinical development initiatives to inform clinical studies through analytical, computational, and novel scientific/technological strategies. Support asthma and allergy early clinical development programs by overseeing and performing analysis of data, including exploratory clinical, genomic, transcriptomic, proteomic, RWD.

Position 4:
This position is collaborative position between the Early Clinical Development and Experimental Sciences and the Genome Engineering Technologies department in Tarrytown, New York. The student will be performing functional modeling of variants in a gene known to cause a lysosomal storage disease. Work from the Regeneron Genetics Center has identified several variants of unknown significance in this gene. To determine which variants are most likely to be relevant to disease, the student will express the variants in cultured cells and carry out characterization of post-translational modifications, subcellular localization, and enzymatic activity of the expressed protein. This data will be compared to a reference variant not associated with disease, and known disease-causing variants. This work will help the Early Clinical Development and Experiment Sciences group identify patients who might be at risk for this lysosomal disease. This student be working with scientists both groups who are working to develop new therapies for lysosomal diseases.
