Communications and Development Coordinator

Summary: ​The Communications and Development Coordinator will work directly with the executive director and other staff at One Iowa. This person will be responsible for communications, marketing, grant writing/administration and working with the executive director to execute the organization’s development plan. The ideal candidate is highly self-motivated, professional, and capable of managing their work load and prioritizing tasks. The person in this role will utilize written communications skills and an understanding of the organization to assist in fundraising efforts.

Responsibilities and Duties
▪ Develop and implement organization’s communication plan in alignment with overarching strategic plan
▪ Write press releases and maintain a positive relationship/reputation with press
▪ Compose copy for e-blasts, website, and other communication avenues
▪ Write copy to solicit funding and generate brand awareness
▪ Work with executive director to execute fundraising strategic plan
▪ Develop/sustain relationships with potential and existing donors
▪ Design and write copy for promotional and educational materials
▪ Generate press and public interest in programs and work of One Iowa
▪ Create materials to promote and solicit funding for One Iowa programs
▪ Research, write, and manage grants through foundations, government entities,
and other sources
▪ Act as a liaison to potential donors at events
▪ Responsible for coordinating grants reporting and administration
▪ Develop and sustain a level of professionalism among staff and clientele
▪ Stay informed about current LGBTQ news and how it connects to our work
▪ Present educational material to the public and other organizations as needed
▪ Maintain and update One Iowa’s website
▪ Other duties as assigned 

Required Skills:
▪ Minimum of 4 years of post-secondary education and 2+ years of experience in communications, marketing, public relations, grant writing, English, or equivalent area of study. Equivalent years of education and experience accepted
▪ Microsoft Office skills
▪ Proficiency in collaboration and delegation of duties
▪ Strong organizational, project management and problem-solving skills with impeccable multi-tasking abilities
▪ Exceptional interpersonal skills
▪ Proven communicator with strong written and verbal communication skills
▪ Motivated individual, with high self-awareness and capabilities.

Preferred Skills:
▪ Graphic Design software skills (Adobe suite, Canva, etc)
▪ Presentation skills
▪ Grant writing experience
