Hydrologic Technician

The Department of Interior's Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is seeking a dynamic and energetic individual to join the seasonal team to serve as a Hydrologic Tech for the North Central District Office, Glasgow Field Office in Glasgow, Montana.

The position serves as a technical assistant in the performance of a variety of hydrology tasks independently and in an interdisciplinary fashion. The Hydrologic Technician will collect baseline hydrologic data in the field; monitor best management practices; conduct stream, riparian, and soil surveys; inventory roads, trails, and other infrastructure on Federally Administered Surface; and collect information related to project level environmental analysis. The technician will prepare field notes, pictures, and data summaries to provide to the North Central Montana District Hydrologist. The technician will also conduct data analysis and database entry in support of various watershed management programs. 

The selected individual would work five 8 hour days (Monday-Friday) or four 10 hour days (Monday to Thursday) each week depending on work site locations, climatic factors, and project completion rates. Duties would be split at roughly 60% field work and 40% office work. Driving a government vehicle to and from field sites will be required. Some field work may require working in streams; long periods of walking over rough, uneven, or rocky terrain; repetitive bending and crouching; and carrying of equipment that may exceed 40 pounds. Some weekend work may be required. This position involves field work where employees may be exposed to hazards such as dangerous plants, insects, and animals.
