Summer 2020 Commissary Internship
The Blank Park Zoo is now accepting applications for the Summer 2020 commissary internship. Internships are open to hard working, motivated candidates considering a career in zoo keeping or animal nutrition. Internships are unpaid; housing and transportation are the responsibility of the intern. Summer intern dates are as follows: May 20th – August 7th, 2020.
Description of intern duties & responsibilities:
Assist commissary staff with daily duties. This includes diet preparation, cleaning and stocking.
Dedicated intern who is able to work at least two days a week from 8:00 – 12:00pm.
Intern will be responsible for:
- Showing up on time and when scheduled
- Learning diet preparation and sanitation practices
- Cleaning kitchen and feed storage areas
- Seasonally – assist with garden
- Reporting any problems to the commissary staff
Requirements:
- Must be a currently enrolled college student in good standing, studying zoology, ecology, animal nutrition, or related field.
- Proof from university that the internship will be for college credit
- Must be a positive, effective team member and be able to establish professional working relationships
- Successfully complete a background check
- Capable of lifting 25 lbs.
- Able to cut vegetables & fruit safely
- Be able to follow detailed directions and ask questions if clarification needed
- Good communication skills
- Ability to take initiative
- Does not mind strong smells
- Available a minimum: two days week, totaling a maximum of 8 hours per week from, May 20th – August 7th, 2020 including weekends and holidays.
- Complete BPZ intern courses.
