RAMP Finance/Accounting Program (late Summer 2020)

We are seeking highly motivated students to be a part of our RAMP (Summer Intern) program. These paid summer internship opportunities are designed to jump start your career, offering on-the-job training and a robust summer of events.  As a RAMP participant, you'll work alongside technology industry professionals on real-world projects, giving you the tools and experience to get your career off the ground. Additionally, Ramp participants will attend networking events, participate in workshops, and present to the WD leadership team.
 
Western Digital’s Finance & Accounting internship is a 12 week program designed to offer breadth into various areas of Finance and Accounting. Interns will contribute to Western Digital and work on assignments and projects such as: 

  • Revenue recognition: Own key customer accounts and track sell thru and inventory in the channel for proper revenue recognition. Assist in various projects such as booking monthly journal entries for license and royalty revenue and expenses.
  • General ledger and international accounting: Prepare and post various journal entries, prepare monthly reconciliations and account analysis, set-up cost center and internal orders for budget vs actual tracking, and prepare monthly financial statements for month end close reviews.
  • Treasury: Prepare wire transfers, bank account opening, and maintain world-wide account tracking
  • Financial planning & analysis: Prepare for key product groups forecast vs actual analysis and ensure proper monthly accrual is posted for all expenses.
  • Cost accounting: Assist in the quarterly standard cost update and assist in maintaining standard costs within SAP. Prepare journal entries, actual cost vs budgeted cost schedule, and various other tasks for month end close. Assist with the businesses cost requests. Ad hoc enhancement projects. 
  • Global credit: Prepare and maintain tracking of Special Pricing Adjustments. Responsible for reporting, researching and analyzing data related to claims
  • Internal audit: Assist with operational audits and investigations. Responsible for SOX walkthrough, documentation, and testing for key processes. 

Additionally, candidates may be involved in supporting Finance managers in areas such as month-end close, forecasting, variance analysis and other ad-hoc projects and analytics. Candidates may support business unit Finance, Planning, Treasury, Controllership, or Audit.


Qualifications

  • Current student enrolled in Accounting, Economics, or Finance with significant accounting coursework, graduating between December 2020 - June 2021.
  • Self-motivated and self-directed, however, must have demonstrated ability to work well with people.
  • A proven desire to work as a team member, both on the same team and outside of the team.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and analyze complex problems.
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
