Industrial Design Intern ~ Equity & Diversity Internship (Summer 2020)

Equity and Diversity Internship 
The QBP Equity and Diversity Internship is comprised of multiple interns working across different areas of the business. Interns have role-specific responsibilities within their dedicated field in addition to group activities and projects. The purpose of the program is to diversify QBP and the cycling industry by encouraging talented students who are members of underrepresented communities and identities and/or students with a demonstrated commitment towards advancing issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion to pursue careers in the bicycle industry. 
 
Eligible internship candidates are members of underrepresented communities and identities and/or students with a demonstrated commitment towards advancing issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion. 
 
Dates of internship: June 8-August 14, 2020
Hours: Full-time, Monday through Friday schedule 
 
Equity & Diversity Internship—Industrial Design

Are you an Industrial Design student who loves bicycles? Is your dream job to work on a team that shares your passion for bikes and desire to create innovative new products? If so, this is the internship for you. QBP is seeking a talented Industrial Design student to join our Product Development team for Summer 2020. Interns participate in multiple development projects across our brand portfolio working closely with Product Managers, Design Engineers, Graphic Designers, and others throughout the product development process. The ideal candidate is an organized self-starter with a passion for bicycles and past internship or project experience in the fields of Industrial Design, design research, strategy, and/or product development.
 
What you will learn:
• Our interns are an integral part of the Industrial Design team, taking on projects and engaged in all aspects of the design process from concept exploration to manufacturable product to immerse design students in real-world development
• Our interns work on nimble cross-functional teams on the research, design, and iteration of bicycle products such as frames, forks, tires, racks, accessories, and softgoods.
• Our interns work with industry-standard software including SolidWorks, Autodesk Sketchbook, and Adobe Creative Suite and have access to our newly established on-site product development shop with prototyping equipment for multiple materials and fully-equipped bicycle build/repair stations
• Our interns research and explore opportunities in the world of bicycles to develop innovative new products that advance the bicycle market.

What you need to succeed:
Qualifications 
• Currently enrolled or recently completed a full-time 4-year Industrial Design degree program. Ideal candidate is completing junior year. Sophomores and recent graduates are invited to apply as well.
• Ability to utilize appropriate visual tools for the deliverable whether 2D sketching, interactive media, 3D modeling or physical prototyping
o Experience and proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, Autodesk Sketchbook, and 3D modeling software (preferably SolidWorks)
• Demonstrated understanding of use case/user research to form conclusions about product function and features
• Strong aesthetic sensibility and ability to translate brand product vision, intended use, and target user into appropriate product form
• General understanding of bicycle mechanics and common manufacturing practices such and welding, casting, machining, and injection molding
Behavioral Attributes
• Self-starter, willing to take initiative and work effectively without close supervision
• Collaborative approach that seeks the input of colleagues and is comfortable responding to constructive feedback and adapting to alternate methodologies and solutions
• High attention to detail and a high personal standard of work
• Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical colleagues
• Ability and willingness to show up with a sense of humor and a smile even when faced with obstacles because hey, we’re making bikes and at the end of the day fun matters!
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to use the computer extensively
• Ability and willingness to test and evaluate a variety of products (a.k.a. Ride Testing!)
