Twelve Core Academic Teachers (CAT) join Aspire from colleges and universities around the country to implement creative and engaging classes to support the academic needs of middle school girls. CATs design, plan, and teach three sections of an academic class — Math, Science, Language Arts, or Social Studies — and select related activities, prepare for lessons, and conduct student assessments.

In addition, CATs teach afternoon workshops influenced by their own expertise and personal interests. These workshops broaden the exposure of our students by covering a wide range of topics not often covered in middle schools.

Teaching at Aspire, you’ll have:
  • The opportunity to change the futures of a motivated, bright group of girls who may be limited in opportunity because of low family income or lack of exposure to higher education.
  • Real experience in the classroom under the guidance of a talented, inspiring teacher who is willing to provide support as you learn.
  • The chance to design and teach academic classes and a workshop that sparks a new passion in a middle school student.
  • The opportunity to become part of a thoughtful, inspiring team, and to enjoy new friendships in a small group of experienced teachers, college and high school students.
