Data and Insights Intern

Position: Data and Insights Intern
  • Location: New York, NY (Midtown Manhattan)
  • Start date: January 2020
  • Length of internship: Flexible (4-12 months)
  • Hours: 35-40 hours/week (no overtime)
  • Compensation: $15-$18/hour, depending on experience
  • Reports to: Data and Insights Manager

Internship Overview and Opportunities
As a Data and Insights Intern, your main project will involve helping build our first data warehouse, including helping build schemas, write code for the ELT and data quality processes, and assisting with migrations across five data sources. 

In addition, you’ll also have the opportunity to contribute to a number of other data-related projects depending on what piques your interest. These projects include:
  • Assisting our Tableau expert and the team manager in building Tableau dashboards and reports
  • Collaborating across departments to ensure all teams and stakeholders understand and are satisfied with their team dashboards
  • Assisting in creating and implementing data privacy and data security protocols
  • Assisting in building forecasting models in Python to track progress toward company goals
  • And other fun data and analytics projects that may arise!

Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a Master’s or PhD program in Computer Science, Data Science, Business Intelligence, Data Engineering, or a related technical discipline
  • Experience (undergraduate, graduate, or work experience) in: Data warehousing (data modeling, ELT processes, etc.), Data quality and integrity methods, SQL, and Data visualization
  • Outstanding analytical skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to communicate complex data processes to a non-technical audience
  • High degree of emotional intelligence and communication skills
  • Motivated and able to work independently and in a team environment
Pluses, but not required: 
  • Experience with Tableau
  • Experience with advanced analytics in Python or R
  • Basic familiarity with website event tracking databases
  • Experience with statistical analysis
  • Experience with NLP, machine learning, and/or predictive analytics
  • Experience and/or interest in data privacy and security
