Residential Summer Program Office Assistant

The Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth has exciting summer employment opportunities for graduate and advanced undergraduate students and alumni interested in educational program administration.

For decades, CTY summer programs have provided a fun and enriching experience for the most academically advanced elementary, middle, and high school in the world.

Working with CTY in the summer can provide a great opportunity to work with dedicated colleagues, diverse professional staff members, engaged students, and ample resources. Positions are available at residential and day sites on the East and West coasts, and in Hong Kong. Room and board are provided in addition to salary for staff at residential sites. Opportunities are available for staff to work either four or seven weeks.
 
As a member of the administrative team, the residential program assistant (RPA) provides logistical support to the daily operation of both the site office and the residential program. Office responsibilities include providing clerical assistance, conducting supply runs, transporting students, covering the front desk, answering and returning phone calls, and tending to other tasks related to the smooth operation of the site. On occasion, an RPA may assist the resident assistants (RAs) in planning, preparing, and/or conducting daily residential activities and weekend events for students. All RPAs must also be prepared to assume the duties of an RA at any time. Specific RPA tasks and responsibilities vary widely with each site's and each day's demands.

Terms of Employment

  • Salary is $3,180 plus housing and meals on campus for a seven-week period
  • Employees pay their travel to and from program locations
  • Travel assistance is provided for Hong Kong site staff

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience working in an office environment
  • Demonstrated ability managing broad job responsibilities and expectations
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a professional demeanor
  • Computer proficiency
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Experience working with young people
  • For insurance purposes, must be at least 21 years of age with a valid driver's license and good driving record
  • Comfortable driving students in site vehicles
  • College GPA of 3.2 or better
