Social Media Intern

Social media is constantly changing. The Nebraska Department of Natural Resources understands the time and dedication it takes to stay on the cutting edge of social media marketing, we don’t have the personnel or time to stay on top.

We are looking for a social Media intern to help us get those followers and keep them interesting in all the great work and accomplishments we are doing. 

This Internship position is open to current students only. This position will provide broad, hands-on experience in various facets of communication and will work directly with the Public Information Officer, Assistant Director, and other agency representatives. 

We are looking for a student majoring in communication with a minimum of 48 credit hours, including News Writing & Reporting or Media Writing, possessing the following key skills:

·        Experience using Associated Press Stylebook.
·        Experience with MS Office, InDesign and Photoshop preferred;
·        Strong understanding of and current involvement in social media sites widely used today,
·        Experience creating videos a plus.
·        Knowledge of HTML, web publishing/design a plus. 
·        Proven written communication skills.
·        An interest in marketing, communications, social media, graphic design, videography/video editing, or reputation management;
·        An ability to consistently demonstrate our values of insight, hard work, and effectiveness in your personal approach to work;
·        An entrepreneurial attitude;
·        Excellent attention to detail and a high motivation to learn;
·        An ability to prioritize work and complete tasks with quick turnaround times and minimal fuss;
·        The ability to work collaboratively with a team;
·        And the ability to think creatively and innovatively with an eye for graphics and media that will interest our stakeholders and get them to engage.

Overall Job Purpose: The Social Media Intern is responsible for creating all social media copy including graphics and videos, coordinating and executing the company's social media strategy, working across key social media channels including Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram and Twitter. This role offers the intern a total immersion into a busy environment and the successful candidate will work closely with key members of our staff. This role will be instrumental in increasing our social media presence and gaining visibility for our brand among customers.

Duties:

1) Creating, coordinating and distributing social media content, working with staff members to establish content ideas for the week ahead, and to plan for a weekly social media calendar.

·        Re-purpose content from other sources for our own social media channels (and understand how to change the tone of the content for each channel).
·        Create original content using photography, video or graphics for the different platforms in line with the established plan.

2) Social Media Community Management Assist with streamlining company social media accounts (e.g. Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest), ensuring uniform content and tone of voice for landing pages, graphics, and other elements within the communities. Increase the number of followers we have on Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram and Twitter by following and engaging with potential clients. Monitoring and replying to posts from stakeholders (initially under supervision from the Assistant Director and PIO).  Posting on a regular basis (both item and industry-related) on Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram and Twitter in line with the established plan.

Internship Duration: January through the end of May with the potential to continue through August (and further).  May – August would work along with the current Social Media Intern for training.  August to December (and beyond) would handle all responsibilities listed above independently.

Time Commitment: Approx. 10-20 hours/week. Schedule will be agreed upon by the Agency and the hired candidate and the time will be worked at some point Monday-Friday between 8am-5pm (potentially split between days).
