Construction Stormwater General Permit Writer (Environmental Specialist 4) (In Training)

The Department of Ecology is recruiting for a Construction Stormwater General Permit Writer (Environmental Specialist 4) in the Water Quality Program, located in our Headquarters building in Lacey, WA.

This position has a direct impact protecting Washington's water to sustain healthy watersheds and communities through implementation of the Construction Stormwater General Permit (CSWGP), implementation of the CESCL Program, and contaminated construction site review.

We are looking for applicants that are team oriented and can provide technical assistance both inside Ecology and to external stakeholders in a professional manner. Strong candidates will have a blend of skills and experience with developing and implementing regulations, and communicating with a diverse audience.

Agency Mission: The mission of the Department of Ecology is to protect, preserve and enhance Washington's environment, for current and future generations. 

Program Mission: The mission of the Water Quality Program is to protect and restore Washington's waters to support healthy watersheds and communities. Our work ensures state waters can support beneficial uses including recreational and business activities, supplies for clean drinking water, and the protection of fish, shellfish, wildlife, and public health.

Qualifications

 

A Bachelor's degree involving major study in environmental, physical, or one of the natural sciences, environmental planning or other allied field AND five years of professional-level experience in environmental analysis or control, or environmental planning which includes one year equal to an Environmental Specialist 3 or above or two years equal to an Environmental Specialist 2 or above.

Additional qualifying experience will substitute year for year for education.

A Master's degree in one of the above fields AND three years of professional-level experience as required above which includes one year equal to an Environmental Specialist 3 or above or two years equal to an Environmental Specialist 2 or above.

A Ph.D. in one of the above fields AND two years of professional-level experience as required above which includes one year equal to an Environmental Specialist 3 or above or two years equal to an Environmental Specialist 2 or above.

Two years of experience as an Environmental Specialist 3 at the Washington State Department of Ecology.

 

NOTE: One year of the required work experience must include writing, administering or performing field inspections associated with NPDES or state waste discharge permits.
