Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW) 2020 Summer Internship

This internship position is expected to conduct legislative and policy research on government waste and accountability issues for CAGW.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

-         Research and write for CAGW's annual Pig Book, Prime Cuts, or other special projects, including campaign books, annual reports, and issue briefs. 
-         Write articles for CAGW’s various publications including the WasteWatcher blog and op-eds.
-         Complete a daily morning report that includes news clippings, legislative updates, and hearing/markup notices.
-         Work with the government affairs team to coordinate events and meetings with Members of Congress and their staff.
-         Attend Capitol Hill hearings and think tank events and generate summaries for policy staff.
-         Formulate policy papers and collect data for original investigative studies. 
-         Assist in answering press and public information requests, conduct media outreach campaigns, produce and distribute press releases, and coordinate mailings to radio talk show hosts, reporters, and columnists. 
-         Handle and complete all other assignments as requested. 

While there are no set educational prerequisites, students with college experience in the areas of government, policy, and economics, as well as those who have displayed a passion for public service, are encouraged to apply.

Students may also receive course credit for the internship. CAGW's intern coordinator will work with the student's school to achieve desired learning outcomes and complete all necessary paperwork.
