The Water Resources (WR) program is currently looking to fill a CRO Regional Well Construction Coordinator (Hydrogeologist 3) position. This position will be located in our Central Regional Office (CRO) in Union Gap, WA.  

This position serves as the Regional Well Construction Coordinator, and as such operates independently as the region's technical expert on all well driller licensing and well construction issues, including those requiring complex hydrogeological investigations. The position provides technical assistance to well drillers, state agencies, local governments, and Ecology staff concerning the implementation and interpretation of State Well Construction Laws and Regulations. The position is responsible for the enforcement of and compliance with the Washington Water Well Construction Act (Chapter 18.104 RCW), Minimum Standards for Construction and Maintenance of Water Wells (Chapter 173-160 WAC), and the Regulation and Licensing of Water Well Contractors and Operators (Chapter 173-162 WAC).

Duties
 
Agency Mission: Ecology's mission is to protect, preserve and enhance Washington's environment and to promote the wise management of our air, land and water for the benefit of current and future generations.  

Program Mission: The mission of the Water Resources Program is to support sustainable water resources management to meet the present and future water needs of people and the natural environment, in partnership with Washington communities.
 
Some of the key work activities of the CRO Regional Well Construction Coordinator position include: 
  • The successful candidate will have opportunities to conduct hydrogeologic investigations as they relate to well construction and water right decisions.
  • This position will be involved in providing technical assistance to well drillers, government agencies and the general public.
  • The position will conduct well construction investigations and make corrective recommendations and take regulatory actions as necessary.
  • This position will allow the successful candidate to gain a comprehensive understanding of the aquifers of Central Washington and how the state manages them. This knowledge will be applied in well construction compliance in order to help protect the state's groundwater resources for current and future generations.
  • The successful candidate will be working with a team of hydrogeologists that frequently work together in a collaborative manner in order to accomplish their goals and objectives.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
 
A Bachelor's degree involving a major study in hydrogeology, hydrology, geology, or closely allied field

AND

Three (3) years of professional experience as a hydrogeologist, hydrologist, geologist or closely allied profession or one (1) year as a Hydrogeologist 2 at the Department of Ecology.

AND

Registration as a Hydrogeologist in the State of Washington.

OR

A Master's degree with a major study in hydrogeology, hydrology, geology, or closely allied field

AND

One (1) year of professional experience as a hydrogeologist, hydrologist, geologist or closely allied profession or one (1) year as a Hydrogeologist 2 at the Department of Ecology.

AND

Registration as a Hydrogeologist in the State of Washington.

OR

A Ph.D. with a major study in hydrogeology, hydrology, geology, or closely allied field

AND

Registration as a Hydrogeologist in the State of Washington.
 

Desired Qualifications:
 
A Bachelor of Science degree involving a major study in hydrogeology or geology, and experience working in the drilling industry, including logging and oversight of well drilling operations. 
 
 
Special Requirements/Conditions of Employment: 
  • Washington State Hydrogeology License.
  • Must obtain and maintain a valid Driver's License.
