Middle School Associate Principal

- Provides instructional leadership within the school setting through focusing on a shared vision and positive school culture.
- Assist in leading the school learning organization by creating a climate and culture conducive to continuous improvement, student achievement, and social, emotional, and behavioral development.
- Interest and ability to support the work to convert a school to magnet or other innovative programming.
- Monitors, evaluates, and reports progress in student achievement and school improvement initiatives to the District, school community and stakeholders.
- Assists in the development, implementation, evaluation, and communication of the school improvement plan to the school community.
- Works collaboratively with the Leadership Team to lead, facilitator and optimize the Professional Learning Community (PLC) Framework and Observation / Co-Plan process.
- Establishes and fosters a school culture that supports the PLC framework and emphasizes collaboration and the collective review of student performance data to guide instruction.
- Works collaboratively with the Administrative and Instructional Design Strategists to deliver professional development that promotes a focus on student learning consistent with the District vision, mission, goals, and the building’s School Improvement Plan.
- Establishes and fosters positive school/community relationships, and clearly communicates the vision for Cedar Rapid Community School District high schools.
- Facilitates a safe and purposeful learning environment by addressing student behavior by utilizing due process and restorative justice techniques.
- Incorporates ethical principles in all decision-making processes, and treats all members of the school community with fairness, equity, dignity and respect.
- Effectively communicates, uses consensus building and conflict resolution techniques, and problem solving skills.
- Establishes and conveys high expectations for him/her, all employees, students, and colleagues.
- Positively impacts the performance of building employees through effective mentoring, coaching, supervision, and evaluation.
- Prepares and supervises the preparation of reports, records, test, and all other paperwork required or appropriate to the school’s administration.
- Prepares, submits and implements the school budget accounts ethically, accurately, and efficiently.
- Works with appropriate district personnel in the effective and efficient operation of the school physical plant, food service, transportation, and accounting functions.
- Recruits, interviews, recommends for hire, mentors and evaluates highly qualified faculty and staff; and work with appropriate district administrators in the selection and assignment of building personnel.
- Manages the implementation of a variety of bargained agreements with and for employees.
- Oversees the Learnings Supports Team to develop and implement a tiered system of supports (MTSS). Participates in IEP and 504 meetings.
- Maintains a safe learning and working environment, and responds to emergencies according to protocol.
- Works collaboratively with appropriate building staff to support students who display academic and behavioral difficulties, and addresses the needs of a diverse student and school community.
- Assists with student co-curricular and social activities.
- Maintains current knowledge of developments and best practices in 6th – 8th grade education.
- Provides leadership in supporting such groups as PTA, school-business partnerships, community agencies, etc.
- Performs other duties as may be assigned.
- PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:Experience working with students who display academic and behavioral difficulties.
- Experience addressing the needs of a diverse student population.
- Knowledge of Professional Learning Communities (PLCs)
- Experience working with first and second order change.
- Experience building capacity to building consensus and a positive school culture.
- Middle School administrative experience.

- Licensure, training and experience for middle school level education.

- Skills and disposition to design a positive school culture and orchestrate a safe, orderly, caring community for learning.
- Capacity to lead staff development planning and implementation to accomplish goals and objectives identified through the school improvement planning process.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills. Proficiency in grammar, spelling, punctuation, and related communication skills, including proofreading, editing and crating original documents.
- Ability to work independently without supervision and as a team member.
- Ability to work under pressure with frequent interruptions, problem solve independently and with others, and take initiatives.
- Reports to work as scheduled on a regular and reliable basis with the willingness to adjust to flexible work schedules.
- Ability to organize, prioritizes, and assumes responsibility and be accountable for decisions.
- Capable of representing the District in a professional manner, which includes but is not limited to confidentiality, collegiality, and the ability to obtain and utilize additional training, if necessary.
