Middle School Associate Principal

  1. ESSENTIAL DUTIESCarries out the Standards for School Leaders.
  2. Provides instructional leadership within the school setting through focusing on a shared vision and positive school culture.
  3. Assist in leading the school learning organization by creating a climate and culture conducive to continuous improvement, student achievement, and social, emotional, and behavioral development.
  4. Interest and ability to support the work to convert a school to magnet or other innovative programming. 
  5. Monitors, evaluates, and reports progress in student achievement and school improvement initiatives to the District, school community and stakeholders.
  6. Assists in the development, implementation, evaluation, and communication of the school improvement plan to the school community.
  7. Works collaboratively with the Leadership Team to lead, facilitator and optimize the Professional Learning Community (PLC) Framework and Observation / Co-Plan process.
  8. Establishes and fosters a school culture that supports the PLC framework and emphasizes collaboration and the collective review of student performance data to guide instruction.
  9. Works collaboratively with the Administrative and Instructional Design Strategists to deliver professional development that promotes a focus on student learning consistent with the District vision, mission, goals, and the building’s School Improvement Plan.
  10. Establishes and fosters positive school/community relationships, and clearly communicates the vision for Cedar Rapid Community School District high schools.
  11. Facilitates a safe and purposeful learning environment by addressing student behavior by utilizing due process and restorative justice techniques.
  12. Incorporates ethical principles in all decision-making processes, and treats all members of the school community with fairness, equity, dignity and respect.
  13. Effectively communicates, uses consensus building and conflict resolution techniques, and problem solving skills.
  14. Establishes and conveys high expectations for him/her, all employees, students, and colleagues.
  15. Positively impacts the performance of building employees through effective mentoring, coaching, supervision, and evaluation.
  16. Prepares and supervises the preparation of reports, records, test, and all other paperwork required or appropriate to the school’s administration.
  17. Prepares, submits and implements the school budget accounts ethically, accurately, and efficiently.
  18. Works with appropriate district personnel in the effective and efficient operation of the school physical plant, food service, transportation, and accounting functions.
  19. Recruits, interviews, recommends for hire, mentors and evaluates highly qualified faculty and staff; and work with appropriate district administrators in the selection and assignment of building personnel.
  20. Manages the implementation of a variety of bargained agreements with and for employees.
  21. Oversees the Learnings Supports Team to develop and implement a tiered system of supports (MTSS). Participates in IEP and 504 meetings.
  22. Maintains a safe learning and working environment, and responds to emergencies according to protocol.
  23. Works collaboratively with appropriate building staff to support students who display academic and behavioral difficulties, and addresses the needs of a diverse student and school community.
  24. Assists with student co-curricular and social activities.
  25. Maintains current knowledge of developments and best practices in 6th – 8th  grade education.
  26. Provides leadership in supporting such groups as PTA, school-business partnerships, community agencies, etc.
  27. Performs other duties as may be assigned.
 
  1. PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:Experience working with students who display academic and behavioral difficulties.
  2. Experience addressing the needs of a diverse student population.
  3. Knowledge of Professional Learning Communities (PLCs)
  4. Experience working with first and second order change.
  5. Experience building capacity to building consensus and a positive school culture.
  6. Middle School administrative experience.

  3. Licensure, training and experience for middle school level education.
  4. Provides active communication and positive relationships with all stakeholders including students, parents, staff, administration and community members.
  5. Represent the District in a professional manner through confidentiality, collegiality, and the ability to inspire and influence others.
  6. Skills and disposition to design a positive school culture and orchestrate a safe, orderly, caring community for learning.
  7. Capacity to lead staff development planning and implementation to accomplish goals and objectives identified through the school improvement planning process.
  8. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Proficiency in grammar, spelling, punctuation, and related communication skills, including proofreading, editing and crating original documents.
  9. Ability to work independently without supervision and as a team member.
  10. Ability to work under pressure with frequent interruptions, problem solve independently and with others, and take initiatives.
  11. Reports to work as scheduled on a regular and reliable basis with the willingness to adjust to flexible work schedules.
  12. Ability to organize, prioritizes, and assumes responsibility and be accountable for decisions.
  13. Capable of representing the District in a professional manner, which includes but is not limited to confidentiality, collegiality, and the ability to obtain and utilize additional training, if necessary.
  14. Aptitude for detail.
  15. Must be able to successfully use, maintain, and access technology.
