The New York State Office of the Attorney General's (OAG) Civil Rights Bureau is seeking bright, hard-working and motivated undergraduate students with a genuine interest in public service for a full-time, paid opportunity during the summer. 

The selected student will assist attorneys and legal support staff with investigations and litigation focusing on education, housing, criminal justice reform and employment. Assignments will include, but not be limited to the following:
  • Completing legal and policy analysis projects;
  • Reviewing and organizing case files and other evidence;
  • Preform various research, records management and report general functions;
  • Assisting with consumer complaint intake and mediation; and
  • Providing legal and administrative support. 

Applicants must have exceptional attention to detail, as well as excellent writing, communication and organizational skills. Proficiency with Word, Excel, Access and similar programs is preferred. Interest in tax, finance, litigation, investigations or other legal practice is also preferred. Fluency in other languages (e.g., Spanish, Mandarin, Russian, Korean, etc.) in addition to English is a plus, but not required. 

Position Details
  • Undergraduates in their first year should wait to submit their applications until after they have received their first semester grades.
  • The OAG’s summer program will officially run from June 1 – July 24, 2020. The student hired for this position will work 37.5 hours/week for the 8 weeks of the program.
  • The selected candidates will be hired as student assistants at the hourly rate of $15.00 for undergraduate students.
  • Applications will be accepted online and positions will be filled on a rolling basis.
  • Applicants must be available to meet in person or by video conference for interviews.
  • Applicants must be eligible to be employed in the U.S.
  • To be eligible, applicants must be full-time undergraduate students in good academic standing as defined by their schools.
