Title: Small Business Sales Consultant

Summary of Responsibilities:
This role is an entry level sales trainee role. In this role, the incumbent will receive a focused training program with coursework and hands on experience supporting the Small Market Sales Desk Sales team in order to develop a working knowledge of the employee benefits industry, MetLife’s group benefits and professional selling skills.

The associate will support their Sales Team with the execution of new sales and renewals while learning the nuances of MetLife’s Small Market Group Benefits business. This role will work closely with the Regional Leader and the Small Market Sales Representatives on the team. In addition, they will engage with Underwriting, Regional Market Sales and Small Market Service to drive the right relationships and outcomes.

The incumbent can progress to a Small Market Sales Representative role based on performance and achievement of core competencies.

Principal Responsibilities:
  • Develops working knowledge on product offerings, tools, technology, processes and operations.
  • Works effectively with seasoned sales team members who serve as mentors
  • Supports the sale, service and renewal of products including Life, Dental, Vision, Disability and Hyatt Legal
  • Learns the basic financial drivers of the Group Benefits business and product lines
  • Develops core selling skills to deliver client-centric solutions – including communication, presentation, negotiation and relationship building skills
  • Develops and maintains strong internal and external partnerships
  • Participates actively in weekly sales team meetings and other training opportunities
  • Provides post-sale service and interaction with clients as needed.
  • Generates reports to track/report activities, progress, and strategies
  • Successfully completes all required MetLife learning and training
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
  • Meets regularly with management to discuss progression in role

Knowledge/Skills/Competencies Required:
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; Presentation skills; Customer focus approach; Relationship building; Interpersonal skills
  • Ability develop working knowledgeable on primary product offerings
  • Ability to develop working knowledge of contract, tools and technology.
  • Build knowledge of MetLife’s service platform, processes and operations
  • 0-1 years of related work experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • Life and Health licenses earned within 60 days of hire date
  • Must remain up-to-date with continuing education requirements to maintain licensing
