Youth and Family Programs Internship- Summer 2020

Are you interested in working with a group of creative and dynamic young people and in mentoring teens as they learn about themselves and the museum? The Art Institute of Chicago summer internship in Youth & Family Programs works closely with teen interns to produce creative programming for youth and intergenerational families at the museum in workshops, festivals, gallery experiences, community partnership and artist collaborations.
The intern is a part of the Youth & Family Programs staff at the museum, a team of educators and artists dedicated to intergenerational learning and creative youth development through experiences with the museum's collection, sensory-rich storytelling, youth leadership, and diverse making experiences.
This internship is a combination of program planning, mentoring teen audiences, and behind-thescenes support. Additional experiences can be tailored to the interests and expertise of the student.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Primary duties:
  • Work with Youth & Family Programs Staff to help oversee the Summer Teen Internship program, including coordinating daily operations, working one-on-one with teens as a mentor and supervisor, supporting teen-driven projects, and planning and implementing training sessions with teen interns
  • Assist with additional Youth and Family programs and projects throughout the summer, including large-scale events, workshops, and tours
  • Participate in day-to-day operations of Learning and Public Engagement Department, including attending weekly Museum Practices Seminars to learn about different Museum Departments
Desired qualifications
  • Have a strong interest in working with and mentoring young people in a museum setting
  • Graduate or undergraduate student with prior teaching/education experience
  • Attention to detail and ability to work in a self-directed manner
  • Excellent communication skills for a variety of audiences
  • Some knowledge of digital media, social networking, photography and basic photo editing
  • Saturday and/or Sunday availability during internship timeframe
