To help advance our work in New York, we are seeking a motivated self-starter with a strong interest in learning more about mapping and environmental conservation. This paid, short term, summer position is an opportunity for the successful candidate to gain substantive experience and exposure to all aspects – conservation science, land stewardship and protection, threat abatement, communications, fundraising – of The Nature Conservancy’s work in the Adirondack region of northern New York. The Associate’s Lead Project in data mapping is an opportunity to work in-depth on a summer-long project to facilitate the collection and curation of data to accurately map the service areas of the 108 land trusts operating across the State New York. This will include outreach to request the data, implementing a quality assurance protocol to ensure accuracy and consistency. Should time allow, the Associate might continue on to the beta testing phase which will increase its usefulness. To learn more about the position, visit www.nature.org/careers; and search for Job ID 48432.

The ideal candidate will have a background and track record that includes: 
·    Minimum level of education completed by the beginning of summer, 2020: Associates Degree or college sophomore and 1 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
·    Experience maintaining and populating databases and manual files.
·    Experience producing maps and/or other graphic products and reports.
·    Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and web browsers.                                                                                                                   
·    Drivers’ license.
·    Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.

Dates and Compensation
·   May-September, 2020: 10-14 weeks total. Preference given to candidates who can work for a longer period.
·   $18.24/hour, 35-hour work week, generally Mondays through Fridays. Some days, particularly those in remote field locations, will be longer than 7 hours.
·   Housing is not provided, but we are happy to assist the successful applicant in finding local housing.
