Preclinical Research Associate

Are you compassionate? Do you love animals? Altasciences is seeking a Preclinical Research Associate at all levels of experience that have a passion for preclinical research. In this position your main focus will be working directly with the research animals and performing the technical procedures per the study protocols. At Altasciences Preclinical Services, we work with many different animal models: non-human primates, rats, mice, guinea pigs, rabbits, swine and canine. In this position you are given many growth opportunities by learning and perfecting multiple technical procedures, working with different animal models, operating laboratory equipment, collecting specimens and data in compliance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) standards. P-IND

Responsibilities

  • Support the Study Supervisor(s) and Study Director(s) by performing and assisting with sample and data collection on research studies
  • Follow and perform standard operating procedures (SOP) & Protocols on study and stock animals, including, but not limited to: clinical observations, food consumptions, body weights, urine collection, administering anesthesia, mating procedures, blood draws (all routes), dose administration (all routes), euthanasia, catheter placement, restraint, enrichment, feeding, food removal, on laboratory animals
  • Responsible for recording, entering and reviewing raw data
  • Prepares for procedures by setting up and maintaining ancillaries on study animals
  • Operating selected laboratory equipment to include: Glucometer, Harvard pump, Digital Thermometer
  • Monitors and reports changes in animal behavior or health, and problems with animal rooms (e.g., caging, lights, and temperature) to all appropriate personnel
  • Maintain general cleanliness and organization of work areas
  • Monitor and report all study changes to the Study Supervisor and Study Director
  • All work must be performed at the highest quality and with the highest regard for animal welfare

Qualifications

  • BS/BA in a scientific discipline preferred. Must have high School Diploma and/or GED required
  • Prefer 1 plus years of experience working with animals, in research, or in a regulated environment
  • Ability to perform high quality work with strong attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to problem solve and know when to ask questions
  • Ability to work collaboratively with all levels of employees
  • Ability to multi-task and maintain organization in a fast paced, changing environment
  • Positive attitude toward work and strong team player
  • Be a part of a team that likes to work hard and have fun
  • Previous GLP experience a plus
  • Ability to lift up to 30-50 pounds required
