Professional Arts Training Program (PATP) Internships & Apprenticeships

SEATTLE REP IS HIRING!!!

Professional Arts Training Program

Seattle Repertory Theatre's renowned Professional Arts Training Program has been preparing theatre artists and administrators from around the country for over 20 years. Our Interns and Apprentices are bright, diverse, self-motivated individuals with basic training and experience in theatre who are committed to strengthening their skills and talents. They are effective communicators with an enthusiasm for community building and self-discovery. And they go on to work at the country's top organizations (including right here at the Rep).

Interns and Apprentices undertake responsibilities as members of their teams, contribute ideas, participate in department and staff meetings, and complete projects under the guidance of their supervisors. Interns also participate in professional workshops and seminars, which provide contact with theatre staff, guest artists, and members of the Seattle arts community. Staff members guide the work of each Intern and Apprentice to help prepare them for a career in professional theatre.

Currently, our program offers two different opportunities, Apprenticeships and Internships, for those looking to start a career in the arts:

Internships
Offered in: Paint, Props, Directing/Casting, and Directing/Literary.

TERMS:
  • Season-long (9 months), full-time (about 40 hours per week) with some sabbatical time
  • A volunteer opportunity with a $250/week reimbursement for expenses
  • Limited opportunities for free housing available
  • In addition to hands-on training in their chosen field, Interns participate in:
  • Cohort activities to build relationships within the Intern class
  • Seminars with industry professionals to gain an overview of how departments collaborate at the regional theatre level. These seminars also introduce Interns to the Seattle theatre scene and help them gain an understanding of how different-sized organizations work.
  • Rehearsal observations as arranged with each individual director
  • A final project to be arranged in agreement with the Intern class. This project can be a performance to boost the Intern’s resumes as they enter the work force, or a career day to introduce our Interns and their work to local professionals with hiring power.

Apprenticeships

  • Pays Seattle-based minimum wage ($16/hour).
  • In addition to hands-on training in their chosen field, Apprentices have the opportunity to participate in:
  • Cohort activities to build relationships within the Intern class.

About Seattle Repertory Theatre

Seattle Repertory Theatre creates productions and programs that surprise, entertain, challenge and uplift our community through a shared act of imagination. In 1963, a group of theatre lovers created Seattle Rep as a foundation for a thriving arts-rich community. Nearly 50 years later, Seattle Rep remains a vital source for creative thought and conversation, a place where the audience brings life to the stories we tell. As we reach new audiences and deepen relationships with our long-time patrons, we welcome and take care of all who come through our doors—there is room for everyone. When we plan our seasons, the scope and scale of our thinking is reflected in the breadth of ideas, emotions and perspectives presented on stage. Through the voices of a diverse range of playwrights, we take Seattle audiences on globe-spanning journeys, while speaking to the issues that resonate with their lives here in the Northwest. Whether dreaming up a new work or re-imagining a classic, Seattle Rep is the place where anything can happen. Our resources and reputation invite actors, directors, designers and theatre professionals at the top of their craft. The caliber of our resident staff along with the technical capacity of our theatre spaces and shops make Seattle Rep a creative home for artists and audiences—a place for unlimited imagination.
