PhD student in Interdisciplinary Graduate Program

The Interdisciplinary Graduate Program Ph.D. Program (IGP) at LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport acts as an entry conduit to all research areas across the five basic science Departments at LSUHCS-Shreveport. The IGP is tailored for students with broad interests in biomedical research but who have not focused their interests on a single area necessary for completion of Ph.D. In the first semester, students complete core courses that provide a broad background in biochemistry, molecular and cell biology, and statistics.  At the same time, students begin laboratory rotations in order to decide in which laboratory they will work in for their dissertation research. In the second semester, students will choose a more individualized course of study based on their research interests and complete one or two additional rotations. Before the end of the second semester students choose a mentor and Department to complete the research project and dissertation, the most important components of the Ph.D. training program. These are completed under the guidance of the student's Faculty Advisor and Doctoral Advisory Committee and must represent original and independent scholarly work. Admissions to the IGP program is online.
