Marine Cargo Underwriting Assistant

We are searching for a motivated, positive individual to join our team as a Marine Cargo Underwriting Assistant reporting to our Marine Manager. As a team member, you can expect to develop a vast knowledge of cargo insurance and the marine insurance industry. You will secure underwriting authority with Lloyds of London and will provide quality and profitable customer services necessary to maintain and grow cargo insurance premiums. ·        Schaumburg, IL

·        College degree or equivalent work experience.

·        Prior customer service background.

·        Insurance license in the state of IL. If you do not hold a valid insurance license, you will need to successfully pass the state insurance exam within 90 days.   

·        Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office software programs (including Excel and Word) and a strong aptitude for learning proprietary software germane to the Marine Insurance product.  

·        Experience with Applied Systems’ Epic Software or an equivalent Agency Management software a plus.

·        Above average mathematical skills to work with numbers and percentages. 

·        Strong analytical skills and ability to make decisions, problem solve and think on your feet.

·        Assertive, but polished and poised communication both written and verbal.

·        Detail oriented with strong organizational skills to maintain files in an orderly and accurate manner.

·        Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team in a positive and professional manner.

·        Act on and respond to in a timely basis requests for cargo insurance quotes

·        Assist in the production of new business and handle existing account renewals and inquiries

·        Create and maintain positive relationships with customers and carriers

·        Handle all marketing efforts of both new and existing business

·        Obtain and maintain underwriting authority through Munich Re (Syndicate of Lloyds of London) 

·        Billing of cargo policy premiums and distribution of invoices to clients

·        Verify insurance company billings/discrepancy reports as required

·        Issuance of Lloyd’s policies, endorsements and renewal documents

·        Provide service to company’s sales staff and clients, including proposals, special quotes, binders

·        and certificates of insurance

·        Pursue a program for professional development including continuing educational courses as appropriate.
