Postgraduate Research Opportunity in Chemistry

*Applications will be reviewed on a rolling-basis.

A research opportunity is currently available with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Agricultural Research Service (ARS), U.S. National Poultry Research Center, Toxicology and Mycotoxin Research Unit located in Athens, Georgia.

The project is to conduct research to understand the chemical dynamics of poultry processing. The primary objective will be to investigate the role of poultry processing procedures on the inadvertent production of select small molecule contaminants. Under the guidance of a mentor, the participant will learn the following daily research activities: hypothesis development, experimental design and execution. These efforts will occur primarily in the laboratory setting but may involve field-based experiments. The U.S. National Poultry Research Center is a unique multidisciplinary research center examining the intersection of microbes, crops, poultry and the environment, and so will provide the participant with a broad perspective on the agroecosystem and crop and poultry related agricultural. As time allows, opportunities on other topics of research concern will also be available. These approaches may involve fungal biology and molecular genetic techniques that add a broadening aspect to the training and learning potential of the opportunity. The participant will also be involved in biweekly laboratory meetings with the staff and students of TMRU, which will provide excellent training.

The participant will receive a monthly stipend between $3,065 and $3,797, depending on the participant's qualifications. A health insurance allowance will also be provided.

This opportunity is available to U.S. citizens, Lawful Permanent Residents (LPR), and foreign nationals. Non-U.S. citizen applicants should refer to the Guidelines for Non-U.S. Citizens Details page of the program website for information about the valid immigration statuses that are acceptable for program participation.
