Employment Specialist

The Employment Specialist is responsible for assessing residents’ interests, employment history, aptitude, and abilities to develop appropriate employment plans by providing vocational and educational counseling and referrals to job readiness, training, and placement programs, which lead to either full-time or part-time unsubsidized employment.

Duties and Responsibilities (Included but not limited to):

  • Conduct intakes, screenings, vocational assessments, individual/group counseling, job development, job coaching, and benefits’ assistance.
  • Provide intensive employment supports and job retention services for clients.
  • Provide supported education services.
  • Develop internships and competitive job placements in the community.
  • Coordinate and communicate with collateral providers: counselors, housing workers, therapists and psychiatrists, on behalf of clients.
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with employers and businesses in the community and perform site visits to clients’ work sites.
  • Carry a caseload and maintain case notes and service plans in CARES and other data base systems.
  • Prepare all mandated reporting as required by supervisor, contract agency and funding agency.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s in Social Work or a related field (preferred)
  • Knowledge of the challenges faced by the homeless veteran population and the supportive services available to successfully achieve the goal of permanent housing and self-sufficiency
  • Prior experience in vocational training, employment search and placement, case management, assessment, counseling, and crisis intervention preferred
  • Computer literate specifically with Microsoft applications required
  • Knowledge and understanding of team concepts preferred and valid US driver’s license preferred.

Site: Single men's shelter

Schedule: Tuesday-Saturday 8:00 am-4:00 pm and 11:00 am-7:00 pm
